Rumor: Bruins interested in trading for young STAR on defense
Keystone Press

Reports coming out of Boston today are heating up a nearly year-old rumor. The hot take? The Bruins are inquiring about the status of Winnipeg Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba.

When Trouba entered the 2016-17 season without a contract, many analysts speculated and reported on the Bruins interest in the talented young blue liner, but a trade never materialized. Less than a year later however, and it appears the Bruins are once again interested.

The 23 year-old native of Rochester, MI has a career year with the Jets in 2016-17, putting up eight goals and 33 points in just 66 games. On a Bruins team that features similar offensive-minded and puck-moving defensemen, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that Trouba’s game could really flourish in Beantown. The slick skating defender would likely welcome a change of scenery as well, as his contract stalemate last season became a distraction and hurt his public persona.

It’s unclear exactly what the Bruins would offer in return for Trouba, but 23-year old, right shooting defensemen who have the ability to play top minutes and put up 40+ points don’t become available too often. If the Bruins are serious about improving their blue line for 2017-18, they could do a lot worse than Trouba.
