This offseason will be one of change for the Colorado Avalanche. General manager Joe Sakic has several high-value players on the trade market including defenseman Tyson Barrie and dynamic offensive forwards Gabriel Landeskog and Matt Duchene. Both Landeskog and Duchene have been tied to the Boston Bruins in trade rumors for nearly a calendar year and a new report, from WEEI 93.7 FM’s Ty Anderson, indicates that a potential trade may hinge on just one players, Bruins defender Brandon Carlo.

While it’s unlikely that a one for one swap of Carlo for either Landeskog or Duchene would be in the works, what might the Bruins add to an offer to land one, or both, of the Avs’ young forwards? Unfortunately, both Landeskog’s and Duchene’s salary and cap hit detract from their value, unless, of course, the Avs agree to take on a salary cap dump like David Backes or Matt Beleskey.

Landeskog, the Avs 24 year-old captain, had a dreadful campaign in 2016-17 scoring just 18 goals and 33 point sin 72 games. That’s not great value for his $5.5 million cap hit. But, perhaps the Bruins see it as an aberration? A wasted season for a team that was woeful from the get-go. He’s young a talented, so a return to his 26 goal, 65 point campaign from 2013-14 is not impossible.
