The Montreal Canadiens appear to be poised to make a significant change to their roster.

First, shoutout to Sportsnet's Montreal Canadiens insider Eric Engels as he appears to have been the man to break the story, however there are now multiple reports suggesting that the Habs are about to place veteran goaltender Keith Kinkaid on the waiver wire just a few short months after singing him to a brand new one year deal during the offseason. This was meant to be a "show me" type of contract for Kinkaid who took a gamble on himself with the one year deal, one that currently plays him $1.75 million for the 2019 - 2020 National Hockey League regular season, but it seems like the Habs have seen enough of him already.

Not only has Kinkaid's audition for his next contract gone rather poorly but you have to wonder where the veteran goaltender will end up now after a rough end to his time in New Jersey last season, and some shaky performances since joining the Habs for this current season. Kinkaid ended the 2018 - 2019 NHL regular season with a 3.36 goals against average and an .891 save percentage over 41 games with the Devils, but his numbers this season have dipped down even further. In just 6 games with the Habs this time around Kinkaid already has a bloated 4.24 goals against average and an ugly .875 save percentage as the Canadiens backup goaltender behind star goalie Carey Price.

The move of course would leave the Canadiens without a backup goaltender at this time and it is unclear what Montreal Canadiens general manager intends to do to replace Kindkaid once he goes down to the American Hockey League or if he ends up being claimed by another NHL organization on waivers. The Habs GM is reportedly in Russia at the moment scouting and interviewing pending unrestricted free agents from the Kontinental Hockey League so he no doubt has his hands pretty full already. Nonetheless the Habs will either need to call up another goaltender to play behind Carey Price or perhaps they already have the acquisition of another backup goaltender in their plans.
