Rumor : Canucks to gamble on high potential centerman?

A project that could pay high dividends.

The Canucks are surprisingly active in this year trading and UFA markets. After promising to go through a complete rebuild in Vancouver to reclaim the top of the rankings in short order, Jim Benning seems to be moving in the opposite direction, at least partly. Acquiring players elsewhere is not bad in itself, but the future has to be kept in mind.

New rumors put forward by the highly reputable Eliotte Friedman have the Canucks in the hunt for centerman Alexander Burmistrov.

The former 9th overall in the 2010 draft brought high hope in Atlanta back in the days. Although he's had plenty of ice time through the years, he failed to develop into the high powered forward many expected him to become. However, the 25 years old still has the time to develop if he's given a fresh start according to many, and it's precisely what he could get in Vancouver.

This project could pay huge dividends if the price is right tomorrow. If the Canucks sign him, he might be the steal of this year's UFA market. He exhausted a 2 years, 3,1M$ contract last season and he might accept yet another low contract to prove his worth. He was injured badly after a huge hit last February, but he's reportedly back on track now.

Tomorrow will be exciting folks!
