Rumor: Chara to be shipped out West?

There had been talk earlier in the season that Boston Bruins long-time rearguard Zdeno Chara could be on the move sometime before the trade deadline.

With the Bruins dealing with multiple injuries and their season seemingly in peril, it seemed like a plausible assumption given his age and pending free agent status.

The Bruins have won 4 out of their last 5 and find themselves in a playoff position in a very weak Atlantic division, and may hold off on any such trade discussions surrounding their captain - for now.

John Hoven joined The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta and Dennis Bernstein to discuss several topics surrounding the Los Angeles Kings, but the bit that jumped out was when Chara's name was mentioned.

It was originally mentioned in jest to Hoven - he was asked if he'd want to see Chara in L.A. - a team that could use some help on the backend. He immediately shut that down, explaining he had no interest in him.

That being said, he did have an interesting note to make about L.A. and Chara.

"Let me tell you this, there was some chatter around Chara over the summer, so there may be something there," Hoven revealed.

Elliotte Friedman revealed earlier this season that the Kings and San Jose Sharks were among teams who expressed interest in the mammoth-sized defenseman two season ago.

Considering we're now hearing that the Kings kicked tires on him as recently as this summer, there's reason to believe that trade talks could intensify as the trade deadline looms ever closer.

A decision will ultimately depend on where both teams stand come the end of February - should the Bruins be on the outside looking in, and the Kings comfortably sitting in a playoff position, it is not a stretch to think that a trade will transpire between the two clubs.
