Shaw may be done.

The Chicago Blackhawks have taken some big blows in terms of players lost to injury as of late and unfortunately for them it now sounds like things are only going to get worse in the National Hockey League's 2019 - 2020 regular season.

Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw was injured in late November and his absence since has been a noticeable one. There is no question that the Blackhawks are both meaner and nastier when Shaw is out there on the ice, but the Blackhawks have been forced to soldier on without him for over a month now. Unfortunately in spite of the fact that Shaw has had plenty of time to recover from his injuries, it sounds like the veteran forward is still dealing with the linger effects of the concussion he suffered.

Although there has been no official indication from the Blackhawks that they are even considering the option oh shutting down Shaw for the remainder of the season, one chicago Blackhawks insider believes that it is now a real possibility. According to a recent report from Mark Lazerus of The Athletic, there is now a growing concern within the Blackhawks organization that Shaw may not come back at all this season. From Lazerus:

And it’s looking increasingly doubtful that Andrew Shaw returns from his latest concussion any time soon (there’s some growing concern within the organization that it could be season-ending), so he’s off the table, too.

Shaw was having a decent go of things in his first season since returning to the Blackhawks. Over the course of 26 games played he recorded 3 goals and 7 assists for a total of 10 points, although he also earned a plus minus rating of -4 on the season as well. Losing Shaw less than one season after acquiring him back from the Montreal Canadiens would not only be a huger blow, but it would also been an extremely poor circumstance for the team given the context of the trade deal with the Habs.

Again I must stress that this is not an official report, however when it comes to the Blackhawks there may be no better insider than Mark Lazerus.
