Rumor: Corey Perry is done in Anaheim.

One of the most recognizable names in the entire National Hockey League may be on the verge of playing for a brand new team for just the second time in his entire NHL career.

On Saturday TSN National Hockey League insider Pierre LeBrun dropped a bombshell during a taping of Insider Trading when he revealed that Anaheim Ducks star forward Corey Perry had likely played his last game as a member of the Anaheim Ducks. The comments from LeBrun were particularly interesting because this does not sound like a situation in which one side or the other is trying to force something, but instead 2 parties that realize that it is time for both to move forward.

"Well first of all the Ducks are on the same page as Corey Perry and his camp as to how this might unfold," said LeBrun. "They have a lot of respect for this guy, former Hart Trophy winner that has done a lot for that franchise, but he is 34 and he has got a big contract and this is a team that is rebuilding and going young so they probably will part ways."

Of course parting ways with a franchise player like Corey Perry is easier said than done, and not just because of the legacy that he has established in the city of Anaheim and around the National Hockey League. It is no secret that Perry is reviled in just about every market outside of Anaheim and additionally he has a contract with a major number attached to his name at this late stage in his career. Perry still counts for $8.625 million against the cap for the 2019 - 2020 NHL regular season and for the 2020 - 2021 NHL regular season as well and anyone who watched him play this season would tell you that he is in no way worth that kind of money anymore.

The Ducks would have to get very creative in order to find a team willing to take on Perry's contract and even if they retained the maximum amount of salary allowed under the collective bargaining agreement, they could be hard pressed to find a suitor. Either way though based on LeBrun's comments it sounds like Perry is done in Anaheim.

"Now if they can't find a trade partner certainly a buyout would be the other option here for Corey Perry, which would make him an unrestricted free agent. Still a lot to play out here but it does appear like Corey Perry's days might be numbered with the Anaheim Ducks"
