Rumor: Could Jagr have a master plan after all?

We are weeks away from the start of the 2017-18 season, and the NHL's second-leading all-time point-scorer remains without a contract! Unbelievable, most people will say, but maybe that is what Jaromir Jagr wants after all.

The Calgary Flames and the Arizona Coyotes have shown interest in the 45-year-old veteran, but Jagr remains patient and waits for the right offer. He could also be waiting to make sure he can do it all this year.

Let's break down how this could happen.

The veteran could choose to start the season, in the Kontinental Hockey League - after all, he did say Tuesday that it is "the best possible league." He could play for Kladno, as he is part owner, and stay in shape for the rest of his plan.

Not being signed by an NHL club would allow Jagr to represent Czech Republic at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. It could be his last chance to win another Olympic medal.

And then perfect timing! The Olympics end on Feb. 25 and the NHL Trade Deadline is on Monday, Feb. 26, giving Jagr one day to sign with a Cup contender. Jagr could join the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Edmonton Oilers or the Nashville Predators and go all the way to the Cup.

Jagr is not in the NHL - yet, but it might all be part of his master plan.

Stay tuned.
