The Boston Bruins may be without one of their more experienced veterans when it comes to the season opener.

Although the Bruins have maintained that veteran forward David Krejci will be ready to go for the season opener this upcoming Thursday against the Dallas Stars, it now sounds like there may be some serious doubts about whether or not that will be possible. Boston Bruins insider Joe Haggerty of NBC Sports is now expressing his own doubts about the availability of Krejci, and likely no one outside of the members of the team itself would know better than him.

It would be a disappointing start to the season for a player that has struggled with injuries throughout his career but managed to stay healthy for a full season during the 2018 - 2019 campaign, appearing in 81 of 82 regular season games for the Boston Bruins. It was a good season for Krejci and he picked up 20 goals and 53 assists for a very impressive 73 points and continued his strong performance in the playoffs with 4 goals and 12 assists for 16 points in 24 postseason games on his way to the Stanley Cup Final.

Now however Krejci has been completely absent since he appeared for just two shifts in the preseason, suffering an injury almost immediately after a hard collision with Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostisbehre. Since that collision in the preseason Krejci has been nowhere to be found, whether that be in preseason games or in practice, and that trend continued on Monday when Krejci was once again absent. Although the Bruins have remained steadfast in their belief that Krejci will be ready to go, Haggerty spoke to head coach Bruce Cassidy today about that very topic and it sounds like the head coach may not be so confident anymore either.

"Bruce Cassidy said David Krejci skated ahead of the main Bruins practice group today, but wants to see him with the normal practice group before he gets pushed into games," said Haggerty. "Didn’t sound quite as positive that 46 will be ready on Thursday."

That game in Dallas on now only just 3 days away, and with Krejci unable to so much as skate with the main group I think it is fair to suggest that there is at least now a possibility that he may miss the season opener.
