Remember the pre-season predictions for the Buffalo Sabres? Finally, after years of being abjectly terrible and failing to compete past the month of October, the Sabres were expected to not only take a step forward, but challenge for a playoff spot. They were meant to leave other basement dwellers like the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Edmonton Oilers in the dust. Except…that’s not what happened. Not even close.

The Sabres finished dead last in their division and missed the playoffs by nearly 20 points. Ouch. Now, it’s being reported by Jon Vogel of Buffalo News that the team’s ownership group, led by billionaire Terry Pegula, is considering raising its ticket prices for 2017-18. Wait…what? How does that work? In just about any other industry if you perform terribly or if your product is proven to be faulty, you don’t get to turn around and charge our customers more money. But, for some reason, pro sports is different.

No confirmation yet on exactly who large of an increase Sabres fans can expect, but really anything short of a discount has to be seen as a slap in the face.
