Rumor: Duchene situation may be about to go 'thermonuclear.'

For the second time in as many days an National Hockey League insider has communicated with Pat Brisson, the agent for Colorado Avalanche star Matt Duchene, and now many are starting to infer a great deal from his comments.

This time it was Avalanche insider Adrian Dater who reached out to Brisson, and in doing so he asked if point blank Duchene would report to camp under his current circumstances.

“If there is no trade of (Duchene) by the start of camp, is it his intention to report to camp on time,” asked Dater.

“I don’t have much to say at this point,” was Brisson’s reply.

Dater however was not satisfied with that response, and contacted Brisson again in order to give hi ma chance to clarify his response as it could be interpreted negatively to say the least.

From Dater:

I followed up Brisson’s answer to me with another email, asking if he wanted to clarify what he told me, because obviously it could be interpreted different ways and, well, we want to get things right around here. No reply as of five hours since I sent it.

Now Dater believes there is a very real possibility that Duchene will not report to training camp, something that he believes could see things go 'thermonuclear.'

It sure seems like there’s a chance Matt Duchene might not report to Avalanche training camp on Sept. 14th, the deadline for veterans to do so.

Dater cautions however that we have yet to hear from Duchene himself, and there is still a week before the 14th for this situation to evolve.
