There is an active need for defensemen around the National Hockey League as several teams are seeking help on the back end and looking at different clubs from a top defender to acquire.

The Los Angeles Kings were once said to be shopping both Jake Muzzin and Alec Martinez, in hopes to get a forward in return. However, the Kings are doing much better than expected despite Jeff Carter's injury and have reportedly decided to keep both blue liners for now.

The Vegas Golden Knights have always positioned themselves as a team with great defensive depth, and rival clubs have been looking them. But now, the Anaheim Ducks are an urgent need for help up front and are expected to move a defenseman to acquire a boost at centre.

According to Matt Larkin of the Hockey News, the Ducks are taking a closer look at Montreal Canadiens forward Alex Galchenyuk and would be willing to part ways with top defenseman Sami Vatanen

The 26-year-old could be much help to the Habs, especially with veteran Shea Weber being sidelined, and he would cost about the thing as Galchenyuk.

"Without Vatanen, they’d still have a top four of Hampus Lindholm, Josh Manson, Cam Fowler and Brandon Montour, with Jacob Larsson possibly sliding into the regular lineup, too."

Once Fowler returns from injury, Ducks GM Bob Murray might complete this transaction...

Would you pull the trigger on that move?
