With news leaking this morning from various sports media outlets that the Vancouver Canucks will indeed move ahead with former Utica Comets head coach Travis Green as their next head coach, rumors have begun circulating about who else could join Green behind the Canucks bench.

Former head coach Willie Desjardin’s associate coach Doug Jarvis remains with the team and is expected to be named one of Green’s staff members, but another name has been floated as well.

The Vancouver Sun’s Ian MacIntyre reported that former Canucks defenseman Nolan Baumgartner could also be part of Green’s staff. Baumgartner has been an assistant coach in the Canucks farm system since retiring from playing pro hockey in 2012. He’s been Green’s right-hand man in Utica since 2013, so it makes sense that he’d follow his partner into the NHL for next season. It’s expected that the team will make the formal announcement on both Green’s and Baumgartner’s hiring tomorrow morning.
