TSN analyst and NHL insider Bob McKenzie weighed in on the latest trade rumor yesterday surrounding the Calgary Flames and forward Sam Bennett. According to McKenzie:

"The Calgary Flames do not want to trade Sam Bennett, but they would like him to get a goal. Or a point."

Having said that, teams are calling and the Flames are listening to offers. But, so far nothing has come close to meeting GM Brad Reliving’s asking price.  “Teams are calling and asking about Bennett, but there's wide gap between Calgary perception of value versus teams calling,” continued McKenzie.

It makes sense if you think about it. The former 4th overall draft pick has gone pointless to start the season and teams an enquiring to see if they can pick him up for cheap. Treliving knows the true value of Bennett however, and won’t sell for anything less than top dollar.

Whether or not Bennett can turn things around though remains to be seen. The 21-year-old forward has shown flashes of brilliance in his young career, but is also one of the Flames’ most inconsistent players. At a certain point, he’ll have to bring his “A” game every night if he expects to be a bonafide NHL goal scorer.
