RUMOR: Flyers have interest in hiring Stanley Cup winning GM
Keystone Press

When Dean Lombardi hired Ron Hextall to be vice president and assistant general manager of the Los Angeles Kings, little did he know that Hextall would be in a position to return the favor ten years later.

Reports out of Philadelphia indicated that Philadelphia Flyers general manager Ron Hextall is in fact interested in hiring Lombardi to join the team’s executive staff. Lombardi served under the Flyers once before, working as a pro scout for the team from 2003-2006. A return to the Flyers would mark a reunion for the two, who were instrumental in the Kings franchise’s first Stanley Cup championship.

The Flyers would need permission from the Kings to hire Lombardi, but reports are that current Kings GM Rob Blake would grant permission, if required.
