Rumor: Former first round pick expected to sign first NHL deal, could impact playoffs.

While teams are no longer able to make additions to their roster via trade, that doesn't mean National Hockey League organizations aren't being extremely active behind the scenes.

Freelance writer for ESPN Boston Jeff Cox is now reporting that former first round draft pick Colin White is rumored to be on the verge of signing his very first NHL contract with the Ottawa Senators.

This represents what is believed to be a big change in direction from the Senators. Rumors at the deadline suggested that the Sens were at the very least contemplating the possibility of dealing White in a trade, and even after the deadline came and went, it sounded like White was destined for the American Hockey League.

If Cox is correct, the Senators would be burning a year on White's entry-level-deal in order to get him in the lineup now both for the regular season and the playoffs. White had 16 goals and 17 assists for 33 points in 35 games with Boston College this season and finished with a plus minus rating of +8.
