Veteran defenseman about to call it a career

On the first official day when GM can buy contrat, the Avs opt to buy out François Beauchemin, veteran defenseman and former Stanley Cup Champion.

According to Jeff Drouin from DLC, Beauchemin would retire instead of continuing his career in the NHL. So far it's only a rumor, but considering the fact that he is 37-year-old and has no contract, this could definitely be a possibility.

Drafted in the third round, 75th overall, by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, he has also played in the NHL for the Canadiens, Columbus Blue JacketsAnaheim DucksToronto Maple Leafs and Colorado Avalanche. In 2007, he won a Stanley Cup with Anaheim.

Beauchemin is currently an unrestricted free agent after he's been bought out by the Colorado Avalanches earlier in June.
