Rumor: Garrison on the move?

Despite being placed on waivers this weekend, Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Jason Garrison may still end up as part of a trade package, this according to a report from Ottawa Sun reporter Bruce Garrioch.

While it may not add up at first, seeing as how the veteran cleared waivers earlier today, but a trade is actually much more attractive than a waiver claim for most teams. The fact that Garrison comes with a $4.6 million cap hit makes him prohibitive for much of the NHL. But, if the Knights can retain some of that salary in a trade, a move that they can’t make on waivers, a trade may go down.

From Garrioch’s column:

Garrison has a $4.6-million cap hit, but he’s making just $2.5 million in real cash, and, if Vegas is willing to eat some of that money, GM George McPhee might find a taker …

So, who might be in the market? The Edmonton Oilers? The Toronto Maple Leafs? How about the struggling Montreal Canadiens?
