Head Coach Is Sometimes an Ungrateful Job

We all know how painful was the Washington Capitals’ elimination last week. The fans, the players and the management thought the 2016-17 edition could make it to the final, and eventually win it all. It obviously did not happen and a big part of the blame was put on Alex Ovechkin, who is now the center of numerous trade rumors.

We does the problem stands? Is it Alex Ovechkin or it could also be head coach & former Jack Adams winner Barry Trotz? Head Coach is sometimes an ungrateful job and rumors a running that he might be the next to be fired. As explained by Dave Holcomb from Fanrag Sports Network

Trotz doesn’t provide his locker room the same playoff mindset as Sullivan does. In the first round against the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Capitals appeared to take the upstart Maple Leafs lightly at times and on other occasions they lacked a killer instinct to put them away. Trotz was saying all the right things about Toronto being a formidable opponent, but it appeared to fall on deaf ears.

Firing a President’s Trophy-winning coach won’t be easy but fact is, he can’t get it done in the playoffs. Trotz won the Jack Adams after the 2015–2016 season with the Washington Capitals. The only other trophy he won is the Louis A.R. Pieri Memorial Award in the AHL (1993–1994)

To be fair, he has an ungrateful task of coaching Ovechkin which is slightly known to be a coach killer. Who will win: Ovy or Trotz?
