It's clear both sides have been hoping to move on.

For a while it sounded like St. Louis Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk was out of luck. Despite his agent publicly admitting that he was hoping for a trade sooner rather than later, the Blues didn't move him at the draft and didn't make any moves involving Shattenkirk following the opening of free agency. There may still be hope for Shattenkirk however.

New York Islanders journalist Andy Graziano has reported comments from the NHL.com's Brian Compton, and according to Compton the New York Rangers after already making a big splash by trading Derick Brassard are looking to make another big trade, one that involves acquiring Shattenkirk.

This doesn't sound like the Rangers just doing their due diligence either, they were reportedly one of the teams interested prior to the draft, and according to Graziano they are now "back in heavy" on Shattenkirk. There have also been rumors of interest from the Blues regarding Rangers forward Rick Nash, although those have been whispers and it's hard to imagine a Nash for Shattenkirk trade making any kind of sense without some additional parts added in.

Compton is a solid source, and we will continue to monitor this one closely.
