The rumors surrounding a potential trade of  Tampa Bay Lightning forward Jonathan Drouin this summer have been picking up steam and that has been largely thanks to comments from TSN insider Bob McKenzie who believes Drouin is likely to be dealt.

On Thursday afternoon McKenzie was a guest on Vancouver's TSN 1040 radio and he stated that his belief stems from the fact that the Lightning had previously attempted to trade Drouin, a trade that was blocked by another NHL star.

“We should preface it by saying that Steve Yzerman hasn’t said anything on any front that would indicate what they are going to do,” said McKenzie as per Fanrag's Chris Nichols. “But what we can mention is that the St. Louis Blues and the Tampa Bay Lightning had a deal done in January for Kevin Shattenkirk and it would have gone through if Shattenkirk had agreed to terms on the contract offer that the Tampa Bay Lightning gave him, which he didn’t. And it is strongly believed that Jonathan Drouin was the piece going the other way as part of the deal."

Needless to say that would have been a blockbuster trade for both sides, and no doubt one the St. Louis Blues would have loved to have seen come to fruition before they were forced to trade him to the Washington Capitals prior to the deadline.

This story however is not over and the next chapter, a trade involving Drouin, could come as early as this summer.
