It sounds like one NHL superstar might call it a season

After playing in just 17 games this season Tampa Bay Lightning forward Steven Stamkos suffered yet another catastrophic injury, one that many believed would keep him out of the lineup for the remainder of the regular season.

TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie reports the sense among sources “is Stamkos is highly, highly unlikely to return for any of the Lightning’s remaining 12 games.” McKenzie added a postseason return has not been ruled out but the Lightning is not certain to reach the playoffs as they are still battling for a spot.

Stamkos was expected to miss at least four-to-six months to recover from his knee surgery and Thursday marked the four-month mark.

While it’s true that he hit the ice on Friday, Stamkos said after the practice he will return when he’s 100 per cent and “obviously that’s not the case yet,” per the team’s website.

This would be one heavy lost for the Lightning as they would need him to increase their chances to participate in the playoffs.

Steven Stamkos played 17 games so far this year. He scored 9 goals and registered 11 assists for a total of 20 points.
