According to multiple reports, the Buffalo Sabres have had some big names scouting their games as of late. In attendance for last night’s tilt between the Sabres and the Columbus Blue Jackets? Calgary Flames GM Brad Treliving, for a second time, and Edmonton Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli.
This has led to speculation that the two Alberta GM’s could be trying to get a closer look at Sabres power forward Evander Kane. It’s no secret that Kane is on the trading block and given the Sabres’ spot in the standings and Kane’s contract situation… it makes total sense. Kane is set to hit unrestricted free-agency for the first time in his career this summer and Sabres GM Jason Botterill isn’t content to let him walk away for nothing.
The question is, what might a team like Calgary or Edmonton be willing to give up for Kane? Follow up question, would he re-sign or be a pure rental? These are questions that will need to be answered before a deal can be consummated. But one thing’s for sure, Kane WILL be moved ahead of this year’s February 26th trade deadline.
