The summer of Mitch Marner marches on…

The unsigned Toronto Maple Leafs restricted free agent is reportedly seeking the “richest bridge deal” in NHL history and there are rumblings that he’s seeking as much as $13 million per season on a five year contract.

Now, according to an unsubstantiated third party report, there may in fact be a team willing to give him $13 million per season. Who you ask? How about the New York Islanders? Yep… the same New York Islanders who lost their captain John Tavares to the Leafs a year ago.

Check out this report from podcaster Joshua Marshall:

Again, this is an unsubstantiated rumor, so take that for what it’s worth. But, it’s certainly an interesting proposition. For what it’s worth, the Islanders currently have over $8 million in cap space, but still need to re-sign RFA’s Anthony Beauvillier and Michael Dal Colle.

Marner put up an incredible 26 goals and 94 points in 82 games with the Leafs in 2018-19 and established himself as one of the best young players in the NHL.
