The three-way Matt Duchene / Kyle Turris trade this past weekend between the Colorado Avalanche, Nashville Predators and Ottawa Senators rocked the NHL this past weekend and has completely changed the landscape of the league’s trade market. Up is down, left is right and GM’s are left scrambling to figure out who is available and what the asking prices are.

Leave it to TSN analyst and NHL insider Frank Seravalli to make sense of it all with his Top 10 Trade Bait list. While Buffalo Sabres winger Evander Kane takes the top spot vacated by Duchene, it’s the Vegas Golden Knights who may generate the most interest on the trade market. Vegas GM George McPhee has three players on Seravalli’s list including forwards James Neal and David Perron, as well defenseman Luca Sbisa.

The problem is, Vegas has gotten off to a red hot start. It’s a good problem to have for the expansion franchise, but it could still cloud the team’s judgement in terms of evaluating their future needs. With the team currently sitting in a playoff position, why would they trade valuable pieces off their roster?

The question really becomes, “is Vegas for real?” If McPhee believes they are, he’s not giving up on anyone. If he’s not sure… might he look down the road to the future and flip his players for younger assets? The Knights are in a bit of a difficult spot, keep your eye on them, especially if they start to slip in the standings.
