Rumor: Logo and jersey change coming for one NHL team?

One team's iconic logo could be replaced sooner rather than later.

In his latest article for Ottawa Senators blog SilverSevenSens.com, Sens blogger Colin Cudmore concludes that the team is in the midst of a subtle re-brand that will see them change logos from their current “Senators’ Head’ logo to the more fan favorite “Heritage O” logo that has adorned the team’s third jerseys in recent seasons.

First introduced as a shoulder patch in 2007, the Heritage O pays direct tribute to the original Ottawa Senators who existed from 1883 to 1954. It has been seen in several iterations since 2007, mostly to massive fan appeal. Maybe the team has finally stepped up and is willing to giving the fans what they want?

In his article Cudmore points to three indicators that the Sens are in fact in the middle of a stealth re-branding. One, the team’s official website features the logo prominently where it would otherwise feature the team’s official logo. Two, the Senators’ brand new AHL affiliate, the Belleville Senators will sport a variation on the the Heritage O logo, opting to go with the more appropriate B logo. Third, the team is literally taking the logo to the ice for 2017-18. As in, literally IN the ice. Canadian Tire Centre will feature the Heritage O logo at center ice next season.

Indeed, it seems the only place the Sens aren’t trying to re-brand is on their actual jerseys. So, what do you think Sens fans? Would you welcome a full re-brand from the Sens head to the Heritage O? If not, what would you like to see? Have your say below:
