Major rumor suggests team will have to choose between star goalie or team captain

The Montreal Canadiens are in a special position where Max Paccioretty (35 goals this season) and Carey Price (one of the best goalies in the world) both have small impact on the salary cap. Paccioretty has a $4,5M cap hit as Price has a $6,5M cap hit.

Problem is, they will both need contract extension by 2018 and 2019 and Marc Bergevin might not have enough space to keep both players. Elliotte Friedman, NHL insiders gave his thought on the situation: 

“When I talked to him last year, he basically said he was going to do whatever he could to keep Price. I see no reason why that would have changed. The only reason that you could see them saying, ‘We’re not going to do it,’ is if they decide, ’You know what? The money is going to be so much that we have to spread ourselves somewhere else. We have to decide to do different things.”

“But I know that every decision he was kind of making was with the idea that he knew he was going to have to pay Carey Price a lot of money, and he was prepared to do it.”

“They’re going to be in a situation in a year or two where they’re going to have to probably decide: Price or Pacioretty.”

“And which one are you doing?”
