Rumor: Maple Leafs have agreed to terms with veteran forward.

It appears that the Toronto Maple Leafs have added some depth to their forward group.

Although there are still no confirmed reports at this time, the deal can not be signed until after midnight after all, National Hockey League insider Adrian Dater is now reporting that the Maple Leafs and veteran forward Kenny Agostino are set to formalize a new deal. No word yet on how much Agostino will make as a member of the Maple Leafs but Dater is reporting that this is expected to be a 2 year, 1 way, NHL contract.

Agostino of course bounced around last season between the Montreal Canadiens and the New Jersey Devils and had a pretty good year in spite of having to integrate himself into 2 new systems. Over 36 games with the Canadiens he recorded 2 goals and 9 assists for a total of 11 points, and he did even better as a member of the Devils recording 4 goals and 9 assists for 13 points, this time over just 27 regular season games.

Agostino has shown an ability to elevate himself when playing with strong teammates, something that should suit him well with the Maple Leafs core group of forwards, and has just entered the prime years of his career at 27 years of age. Additionally I would suspect that general manager Kyle Dubas is looking for some low cost moves to bolster the depth on his roster, considering how much cap space he is expected to have committed to his big 3 next season(John Tavares, Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner) so I would suspect that they got Agostino at a bargain price here.

This seems like a solid addition for the Leafs, and one that will likely turn out to be relatively low risk.
