Rumor: Maple Leafs targeting young goaltender during the offseason.

There is a belief among fans and pundits alike in Toronto that the Maple Leafs may not be sold on Jonathan Bernier as the franchise's long term goaltender, and with good reason. 

According to ESPN insider Pierre LeBrun the Maple Leafs may intend to remedy that situation as early as this summer, indicating his belief that the Leafs will target talented young goaltender Frederik Andersen currently of the Anaheim Ducks.

"To me, if I'm Toronto, and I do believe the Leafs have interest in him, that's the guy that I would target," said Lebrun as per Nichols on Hockey.

Andersen has been the subject of trade rumors for quite some time, and by all accounts the Ducks are looking to move one of their goaltenders, meaning this move from Toronto is very possible. Andersen will be a restricted free agent this summer, which could also lead to an offer sheet from Toronto, although that may not be easiest way to get this deal done.

Andersen is coming off a solid season for the Ducks where he put up a .919 save percentage and a 2.30 goals against average over his 43 games in the regular season. Furthermore he demonstrated he could elevate his game in the playoffs, and despite an early exit for Anaheim Andersen put up a .947 save percentage and 1.30 goals against average in his 5 playoff games this season.

At just 26 years old Andersen would very much fit Toronto's long term plans.
