Rumor: Massive changes imminent for the Habs?

Last time Price played this badly, a coach got fired...

The Montreal Canadiens are struggling. Badly. The pundits already have them selecting 1st overall in the 2018 draft (which let's face it - might be the best thing for them at this point).

With yet another confounding loss against the Anaheim Ducks Friday night by a score of 6-2, and an overall disastrous California trip once again, the Habs find themselves with an abysmal 1-6-1 record in 2017-18. Their 7 straight losses are the worst since World War 2.

Montreal can't score. They can't play defense. And Price can't save a puck.

That last part is perhaps the most intriguing part of this early disaster of a season. Carey Price is easily the best goalie in the world and he's playing like one of the worst. 3.94 goals against average. 0.881 save percentage. 1-5-1.

This isn't Carey Price.

If fans recall - last season, prior to Michel Therrien getting fired, Price was on a similarly awful sequence. Many observers hypothesized that the slump was related to his unhappiness with the roster and coaching situation, and that he forced Marc Bergevin's hand. We'll never know for sure what was going on, but the theory is interesting nonetheless.

Claude Julien isn't on the hot seat. But his assistants may be. And several players on the roster may be too. At this point - there's no way John Tavares gets traded here and agrees to sign a contract extension. If Bergevin wants to not only salvage this season, but the seasons to come - and his job - he will have to make some aggressive moves.

Carey Price's awful play may be another sign of changes to come.

It may require him to give up on key players such as Brendan GallagherAlex Galchenyuk, and even Max Pacioretty - if it means bringing this team back to life.

This may be a long season - with many huge changes down the horizon.
