The NHL Ready centerman Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson would be close to a deal.

With Boston’s place in the post-season essentially secured, the Bruins are looking to promote some young talent to add to the team’s depth-chart.

Swedish prospect Jakob Forbacka Karlsson is reportedly close to signing an entry-level deal with the Bruins, according to Kirk Luedek of Red Line Report

Karlsson was drafted 45th overall as Boston’s second-round pick in 2015, and has played the last two seasons in the NCAA with Boston University.

Weighing in at 6’1 and 192 lbs, the 20-year-old Karlsson is a natural center with some tremendous potential. In 36 games, he had 13 goals and 18 assists, combining for 31 points this season. He has 61 points in 75 games for Boston University over the past two seasons.

Jakob Forbacka Karlsson has a huge amount of potential as a two-way pivot, and could learn a lot from one of the best in the league: Bruin’s veteran and three-time Selke Trophy winner Patrice Bergeron. Whether the chance to mentor under Bergeron will be enough to entice the prospect to sign remains to be seen, but it is likely that Karlsson will start out in the AHL affiliate Providence Bruins.
