This whole Mitchell Miller story has been extremely disappointing from my perspective, but I am happy to say that it looks like the young man may have found himself a new path to redemption.

For those of you who somehow have missed this story I'll give you a very brief summary:

- At 14 years old Miller was convicted of abusing a black disabled teenager at his high school, a young man named Isaiah Meyer Crothers.

- Miller and his camp claim that he has been remorseful, it was a life changing event, and that Miller has even gone on to work with disabled children.

- A letter published by the victim's mother, Joni Meyer Crothers, claims that up until 2 years ago Miller continued to taunt her son and had never apologized to the family or Isaiah.

- Miller wrote a letter to every NHL team expressing remorse for his actions.

- Miller was drafted in the 4th round by the Coyotes, the team allegedly was fully aware of his history.

- The Coyotes made the decision to cut ties with Miller following the publication of those details and the ensuing public outcry.

Personally I feel that the decision to cut ties with Miller on the part of the Coyotes, the University of North Dakota, and others, was incredibly self-serving. It seems, allegedly, that all parties were aware of his past and only decided to act in this manner as a result of public pressure, something I consider to be a rather cowardly act on the part of all of those involved.

Keep in mind I'm not even saying Miller should have been drafted, or recruited, but once the decision was made to do so in spite of his history then the organizations that made a commitment to him should have been prepared to face the consequences of that decision. Everyone who decided to give this kid, and yes at 14 years old when he made these awful choices he was indeed just a child, a second chance turned their backs on him as soon as it became expedient to do so and I give none of those organizations credit for their self-serving actions.

Despite seemingly everyone giving up on him however there is now one report that does provide a ray of hope for Miller. According to Russian sports website Championat, Miller may now be headed to the KHL. Although this is not official at this time, the Russian website links him to SKA St. Petersburg, one of the league's most successful teams and certainly a team with the kind of financial power to lure free agents from North America to Russia.

I think what Miller did was disgusting but I do hope he can find redemption, I think it is equally amoral to judge a person for the actions they committed at just 14 years of age and hold that over his head for the remainder of his life.
