MONSTER Trade Expected in Washington Comes July 1st

Point is, with Ovechkin and the actual Washington Capitals roster, it’ll be tough to beat the Penguins next year and so on. So time has come, according to John Feinstein to change the face of the organization.

Darren Dreger opened the discussion on the possible changes the Capital might face this summer:

“Justin Williams—is he likely going to re-sign with the Washington Capitals? I’d be surprised if they don’t have interest in re-signing him. Again, he’s a playoff guy. T.J. Oshie, for me, is really interesting. What a find he was, and a great add in that trade with the St. Louis Blues. For me, he’d be a priority. And what do you do with Kevin Shattenkirk? Based on their salary cap in Washington, can they afford to sign him to a seven-year extension upwards of $6.5-7 million per. So there’s going to be changed just automatically in Washington.” Said TSN insider Darren Dreger.

Dreger also added the most HARSH comments on Ovechkin: “So I’m not going to sit here and judge from Paris to say it’s time they attacked the core and move Alex Ovechkin, as the example. I’m still a believer in Ovechkin, but the reality is the reality. He can’t and doesn’t deliver this time of year. Whereas conversely, Sidney Crosby does. He’s proven that he does."

Renaud Lavoie from TVA Sports added the expansion could bring a unique opportunity for the Capitals to trade Ovechkin to Vegas. What’s the goal? To rebuild around Kuzntezov and Orlov? Or they should rather change Ovechkin to change the core leadership group. Teams with a lot of depth (like Minnesota and St. Louis as examples) could be interested to trade for a huge package deal.
