For the third day in a row a report has come out of Buffalo linking the Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins in trade discussions for Sabres goaltender Chad Johnson

Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News reported this morning that Sabres GM Jason Botterill is taking offers on both Johnson and starter Robin Lehner after the pair have got off to an awful start to the season. With Penguins starter Matt Murray still on the IR with a lower-body injury, speculation is running wild that GM Jim Rutherford could make a move.

Here’s the catch: backup Tristan Jarry has been outstanding. That’s a pretty good catch… still might Rutherford look to acquire some veteran help should Murray or Jarry need some rest later on in the season?

While nothing appears imminent don’t be surprised if Johnson or Lehner end up in a Penguins jersey by the NHL’s February 26th trade deadline. Stay tuned.
