Rumor: New logo/jersey coming for Canadian NHL team?

According to multiple online reports, there could be a new look in the NHL next season. Several intrepid reporters and analysts have noticed that the Vancouver Canucks have slashed prices by 70% on their jerseys recently, leading to speculation that the team is looking to clear out its old look to make way for brand new logo and jersey design in 2019-20, the team’s 50th anniversary season.

Industry insiders at Icethetics reported last month that the Canucks are “expected” to make changes to their home and away jerseys and that a new third jersey will also make its debut in 2019-20.

Check it out:

2019 HOME & ROAD JERSEYS: Expected. After the Blackhawks, the other big surprise from the Adidas catalog was seeing new primary sweaters listed for the Canucks in 2019-20! It’s unclear whether the Canucks are working on sweeping changes or maybe just updating the crest to remove the superfluous “Vancouver” arched across the top. But I also wouldn’t be that shocked to see a new primary logo to coincide with the 50th anniversary.
2019 THIRD JERSEY: Confirmed. Canucks COO Jeff Stipec told TSN in August that there will be a new third jersey in 2019-20 — in addition to the throwback sweater fans voted for over the summer. The Adidas catalog does corroborate this.

The Canucks, of course, are hosting the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, which would provide the organization with the perfect time to debut a new look. As mentioned above, Icethetics reports that the “VANCOUVER” word mark at the top of the logo will be removed, but is that it?

To be honest, even though it’s such a minor change it’s a MUCH fresher look for a team that has had SO many changes throughout its history.
