A National Hockey League player agent has just made some very interesting comments, comments that suggest his client may be seriously considering retiring from the game of hockey.

According to Steve Bartlett, the agent who represents Buffalo Sabres captain Brian Gionta, while his client has received interest from multiple NHL teams, his client may not be interested in signing with those teams.

"Gio has not made any final decision on his future," said Bartlett, said via email as per John Vogl of the Buffalo News . "We have had a number of teams that have indicated they would sign him, but he is not sure right now which if any offer he would accept.

"He will continue to prepare as though he will play, and we will see how things play out here over the next couple weeks."

It's unclear if Gionta simply does not want to play for the teams that have shown interest, or if he is merely seriously considering not playing at all next season, however Bartlett would not have made these comments publicly without first speaking to his client.

Gionta is a veteran of over 1000 NHL games and already has a Stanley Cup under his belt, if he does chose to walk away it will be a fitting end to a very accomplished NHL career.
