Rumor: NHL fans may be involved in the Stanley Cup Playoffs after all.
The Star

The National Hockey League has been working on quite a few things behind the scenes in recent days but it seems like one of their sneaky plans for the upcoming Stanley Cup Playoffs may have just been revealed.

For several days now we have been hearing about the possibility of the NHL making special preparations inside the arenas where the games will be hosted, including rumblings that the league has asked for carpenters to be given access to the facilities in order for them to set up new camera angles that would otherwise be impossible with fans inside the arena, and now we have another lead regarding some possible changes that might be coming to the audio we will be hearing during the broadcasts.

Sam Prevost of Bleacher Report appeared to be the first to break the news today when she published a segment of an email she had received from the New York Rangers on social media. The email asked her, as a fan, to submit short videos that showed her engaging in some of the teams most common chants and that led Prevost to speculate that this could be how the league is intending to solve the obvious audio issues that will stem from having no fans in the building.

It simply however could have been a project that the Rangers themselves were engaged in and it may have nothing to do with the league itself, but I no longer believe that to be the case. We have now also seen that the Calgary Flames have sent out a similar email to their fan base thanks to Flames fan Leah Kessel who showed that she had received a very similar email from the Flames organization.

As if seeing this trend come from two teams was not enough though we now have even more proof thanks to some excellent detective work on the part of the NHL's fan base. We now also know that the Winnipeg Jets are also involved in this, which means that we have now seen evidence that at least 3 teams are collecting these type of clips from their fans. We do not know what the clips will be used for, at least not officially, but I highly suspect that this is how the NHL will get its fans involved in the games.
