The Edmonton Oilers hot stove was cranked up to 10 last night on Hockey Night in Canada’s Saturday Headlines segment. In addition to all the latest Ryan Nugent Hopkins rumors, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reports that the Oilers’ forward Patrick Maroon has generated some interest on the trade market, most notably from the St. Louis Blues.
Interesting fit. Maroon, is a St. Louis native and his three year, $6 million deal expires this offseason, making him a perfect rental for the surging Blues. The 29-year-old power forward broke out BIG TIME last season playing alongside superstar Connor McDavid, scoring 27 goals and 42 points. This season however, Maroon has just six goals to start the season, but he’s bounced around the Oilers’ lineup much more than in past seasons.
If the Oilers continue to slide in the standings, don’t be surprised if Maroon is sent packing to the highest bidder.
