We have a very interesting development involving two different teams who appear to be unhappy with the direction of some of their current roster players.

According to a report from Boston Bruins reporter Jimmy Muprhy, his sources have informed him that the Boston Bruins and the Edmonton Oilers are currently having discussions on the trade front, although nothing appears to be set in stone at this time. Murphy has described these trade talks as exploratory and he believes that the Oilers and Bruins are revisiting trade discussions that had previously fallen apart, something that could mean a number of different interesting possibilities.

The report from Murphy makes a great deal of sense when you consider that the senior vice president of hockey operations for the Edmonton Oilers, Craig MacTavish, was spotted scouting the Bruins and the Vancouver Canucks just earlier this week. Now MacTavish may very well have been scouting the Canucks at the time but given the timing of Murphy's report it now seems that the Bruins are the much likelier candidate in that regard.

The news is very interesting when you consider that both organizations have reportedly been unhappy with some of their players internally. In the case of the Edmonton Oilers it is no secret that veteran forward Milan Lucic has become somewhat of a magnet for criticism given his big salary and seeming inability to produce on the scoreboard. Lucic's home was also invaded last season in a rather scary incident for the veteran forward and there have been some rumblings suggesting that the enforcer wants out of Edmonton himself. The issue with Lucic however is find a team that will be willing to take out his ugly contract, a situation that appears to be the case for another Oilers forward that has reportedly been on the trading block, Dylan Strome.

In the case of the Boston Bruins the team has reportedly been very unhappy with their secondary scoring and given the struggles of some Oilers players, notably former first round pick Jesse Puljujarvi, they may see an opportunity to improve on that front via a trade with the Oilers. Based on recent rumors however it sounds like the Bruins would be far more interested in unloading older players like David Krejci or David Backes, and I'm not so sure the Oilers would be all that interested in players of that nature given their own struggles on offense. That being said a younger player who is also expendable, someone like Anders Bjork for example, could be a piece in a smaller trade with Edmonton.
