Rumor: Oilers and Red Wings talking big trade

Seems like Chiarelli has his hands in everything!

The Edmonton Oilers are shopping for a goalie to backup Cam Talbot - as Laurent Brossoit hasn't quite cut it in his teammate's absence. Talbot should be back soon, but Peter Chiarelli has identified the need to improve the team's depth between the pipes.

The most significant rumor circulating right now involved the Winnipeg Jets' Michael Hutchinson, but according to Elliotte Friedman, there's another big name being discussed.

Chiarelli has held discussions with Ken Holland, general manager of the Detroit Red Wings, in regards to Petr Mrazek's availability. Jimmy Howard has cemented himself as number one goalie in Detroit this season, and Mrazek has become an option on the trade market.

He's a goalie capable of taking a decent number of starts, hence reducing Talbot's excessive workload. His $4 million cap hit is an obstacle, but considering Chiarelli has held talks with Holland about Mrazek, there may be a way to work it out.

Friedman is unsure of where the two teams stand in regards to these trade discussions, but he has confirmed that the possibility of the two teams preparing a trade on that front is very real.
