The Edmonton Oilers had an incredibly important offseason that largely centered around securing long-term contracts with star forwards Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, but now their attention may have turned elsewhere.

TSN hockey insider Bob McKenzie was recently asked about whether or not the Oilers, and more specifically general manager Peter Chiarelli, are currently contemplating the possibility of making a move to shore up their blue line, and because of the injury to Andrej Sekera McKenzie feels there is something coming.

"Because of Sekera injury/uncertainty, I do believe Edmonton will add an experienced defenceman," wrote McKenzie on social media.

McKenzie was asked specifically about the possibility of defenseman Cody Franson joining the Oilers, and while he didn't confirm that move specifically it's clear he feels the Oilers will be doing something sooner rather than later.

We will be updating you as more news continues to break on this rumor.
