Rumor: Oilers forward hits the trade market

One team insider says “nobody will be surprised” when he’s finally traded.

According to a report from the Edmonton Journal’s Jim Matheson, the Edmonton Oilers may be looking to trade forward Anton Slepyshev.

The 23-year-old Russian forward has just one goal and two points in 13 games with the Oilers this season and hasn’t done much to earn the trust of head coach Todd McLellan

There’s just one problem… who in their right mind would want Slepyshev right now? While he’s managed to be a productive player at the AHL level, he doesn’t exactly have a track record of success at the NHL level. If he were to be moved, Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli wouldn’t fetch much in return. Likely a low pick or a long-shot prospect.

Still, if there’s a team out there willing to take a chance on a player with untapped potential, we could see Slepyshev moved in advance of the NHL’s February 26th deadline. Sit tight, Oilers fans.
