In a surprisingly candid comment at the annual Montreal Canadiens golf tournament, team owner Geoff Molson admitted to La Presse’s Richard Labbe that he has had discussions with general manager Marc Bergevin about acquiring New York Islanders superstar John Tavares.

Wow. Under the NHL’s tampering rules that may be grounds for a stiff penalty or a fine. All it took for Vancouver Canucks GM Jim Benning to earn a $50,000 fine from the league last offseason was a passing mention of his interest in pending free-agent Steven Stamkos and trade market asset P.K. Subban.
What do you think Islanders fans? Is this one worthy of a slap on the wrist?
