The ongoing saga between the Boston Bruins and David Pastrnak has now officially entered it’s third month. When Edmonton Oilers star Leon Draisaitl inked his eight-year, $68 million contract with an average annual salary of $8.5 million it was expected that Pastrnak would follow in short order. Over a month later however and he remains unsigned, with no indication of progress in negotiations.

According to TSN analyst and NHL insider Darren Dreger, the Draisaitl deal is precisely the issue. Pastrnak and his representation continue to use it as a comparable, while the Bruins play hard ball.

Check it out:

Is Pastrnak really worth $8.5 million? Before the Draisaitl deal was signed there was talk of him signing in Boston for $6-$7 million annually. Just because the Oilers overpaid for a young star, are the Bruins doomed to the same fate? While he may be worth it over the long haul, does Pastrnak really believe himself to be worth that much? Or is he merely playing the negotiation game for all its worth?
