Rumor: Potential number one goalie to be traded?

It's a rare phenomenon that a team carries two number one calibre goalies - typically, when a young backup proves himself capable of playing as a starter, one of the two gets traded.

For the Pittsburgh Penguins, it was Marc-Andre Fleury that was sacrificed at the expansion draft as Matt Murray emerged as the next big thing between the pipes.

For the New York Rangers, it was Cam Talbot who was given up by the New York Rangers to the Edmonton Oilers.

In the case of the San Jose Sharks, it's goaltender Aaron Dell, who is the backup to clear-cut starter Martin Jones.

Dell has a 5-3-1 record as the backup for the Sharks and a sparkling 0.939 save percentage to along with a league-leading 1.72 goals against average. Sure, the sample size isn't big, but he has been very reliable as a backup goaltender. Kevin Kurz of The Athletic wonders if a team will give him a shot at the number one spot if he keeps up his stellar play.

It should be noted that many scouts were at the Sharks' last game.

That's a sizeable number for a game in San Jose. Evidently Dell is likely one of a few different players being observed - but it will be interesting to see if he becomes the next Cam Talbot.
