Rumor: Price to be shopped once Habs enter rebuild mode

Price wants out or Bergevin looks to push him out the door?

There have been a lot of rumors surrounding Carey Price, who struggled out of gate this season and has missed three contests so far for the Montreal Canadiens with a lower-body injury.

On Tuesday, Sportsnet insider Nick Kypreos clarified his remarks from Saturday’s Hockey Night in Canada headlines segment, saying Price’s contract switched from a no-trade to a complete no-movement clause in the final season of his current deal.

The insider was not saying that Price wanted to be moved out, but an important clarification was made.

If the Habs decide to go into a rebuild, Kypreos wonders if they’ll want a goalie earning $10.5 million annually over the next eight seasons to be part of it. GM Marc Bergevin could look to move him to get a huge return of young players, prospects and picks to ensure a strong offensive and defensive future in Montreal.

Kypreos added that Price might not want to be part of a potential rebuild phase and look to sign elsewhere, maybe somewhere back out West. The 30-year-old goalie signed his long-term deal when he felt the Habs would contend for a Stanley Cup.

It sure looks more of a challenge this season, but if Price gets back on track, these rumors could remain...rumors.
