Rumor: Proposed three way trade involving PK Subban
Zuma Press

In case you missed it, the Nashville Predators bowed out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs last night losing Game 6 of their opening round series to the Dallas Stars and dropping the series 4-2. It’s a second consecutive disappointing season for the Preds following their run to the 2017 Stanley Cup Final and it has hockey fans wondering if there’s a shakeup to come this offseason in Nashville. Superstar defenseman P.K. Subban has had his name dropped in just about every trade rumor for the past calendar year, but there’s no way Preds general manager David Poile would move him, is there?

Vancouver Canucks insider Jason Botchford sees Subban as a perfect target for the Canucks and feels that Canucks GM Jim Benning can leverage the Calgary Flames’ cap crunch to land Subban.

Say what!?

Stay with me here… check it out:

So… in summary:

Canucks take on Jame Neal’s contract along with Dillon Dube and a first round pick for….?

Canucks then flip Dube, the first round pick and… ? for Subban?

That seems like an incredible work of fiction…

First off, who are the Canucks sending to Calgary in exchange for Neal and two premium young assets? Secondly, if the Canucks were able to score that deal why flip the assets to Nashville for an aging defenseman on a bad contract? Subban’s numbers with the Predators this season would have him pegged as a #3 or #4 defenseman in Vancouver. Wouldn’t they be better off keeping Dube and the pick?

A head scratcher for sure…
