Rumor: Rangers next trade target revealed!
KeyStone Press

The more things change, the more they stay the same. The New York Rangers have improved tremendously as the season keeps going and they can forget about October. New York has won five straight games with key players finding the back of the net.

The blue line has approved as well, with newcomer Kevin Shattenkirk proving why the Rangers were right to chase him in the summer. Puzzle pieces are falling into place and the heat has gone off head coach Alain Vigneault, whose job was in jeopardy in the past few weeks.

But GM Jeff Gorton is still looking at the trade market... One major problem remains and as Jared Clinton of the Hockey News pointed out "one thing might be holding them back from continuing their climb up the standings: goaltending."

The past trade chatter focused on the Blue Shirts getting a centre or an important piece on the back end, because it was believed that starter Henrik Lundqvist would adjust and get back to what fans know he is capable of... But now with the offense and defense doing better and looking ready for more, the goaltending is not able to match their success with backup Ondrej Pavelec struggling.

Clinton suggests that the Rangers should look at the trade market to add a solid backup for Lundqvist. The Colorado Avalanche is said to be looking to trade Andrew Hammond who was acquired in the Matt Duchene deal. The Detroit Red Wings also hinted at the possibility of moving goalie Petr Mrazek

Some options available for the Rangers, who will need to improve in between the pipes if they want a long run for a Stanley Cup...
