The Detroit Red Wings have been in a prolonged battle with young forward Andreas Athanasiou, a battle that many believe has put a great deal of pressure on general manager Ken Holland as it pertains to his future with the organization.

Now however that pressure may be about to ramp up as one of hockey's very best insiders, TSN's Bob McKenzie, has reportedly revealed the offer the Red wings have presented Athanasiou.

While McKenzie was clear that he does not have any hard facts, he did state that "last he heard" the Red Wings have offered Athanasiou a two-year contract worth an estimated $1.9 million per season.

When you consider that Athanasiou's agent has claimed they have received much more significant offers from the Kontinental Hockey League, this offer from the Red Wings seems like it may not be enough to get it down.

There's still plenty of time before the start of the regular season however, so this offer could change over time.
