The Vegas Golden Knights are going strong already at the start of their first season, and GM George McPhee is trying to score as well on the trade market. The team is carrying nine blueliners and three of them – Griffin Reinhart, Brad Hunt and Jon Merrill – have yet to play.

Sportsnet’s John Shannon has suggested that Reinhart has no NHL trade value and would clear waivers if sent to the AHL. However, McPhee is still hoping to find a trade market for some of his excess players, which is why he hasn’t demoted them.

"I think he’s just being methodical because he thinks he has some level of assets. And in reality we know that… he doesn’t have near the assets that he truly believes he has," Shannon told David Staples of the Edmonton Journal

There has been controversy surrounding Shea Theodore, who many think should be in the NHL right now. Since the young defenseman is on entry-level contract, he did not have to clear waivers to go to the AHL, while Hunt, Reinhart and Merrill do have to clear waivers.

McPhee will try his best to move any of those three defenders on the market, though they lack good value, just to see if another NHL club will bite and give an interesting return of picks or prospect to build the future in Vegas...
